As the cost of living crisis continues to cause concerns around the public’s financial future, more and more individuals are making the move to a solar-powered way of living. Industry standards organisation the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) shared insights that show in 2023, solar panel installation saw a 40% year-on-year growth.Project Solar also conducted research into people’s attitudes towards the cost of living crisis and found that in late 2023, 73.6% out of 1,000 respondents were worried about their energy bills. It is predicted that 2024 will see a greater surge of solar panel installations as consumers aim to take back control of their energy rates.
The Top 5 regions for solar panel installations
Further insights from MCS have revealed the regions with the fastest-growing amount of solar panel installations since January 2023.
- South Cambridgeshire
- St Albans
- Westmorland and Furness
- East Cambridgeshire
- Winchester
All these regions have far surpassed the national average of 0.59% growth between now and January 2023.
Solar Panel Installations Surge
It’s clear that England is making strides to become an increasingly more eco-friendly country, evidenced by the forecasted number of solar panel installations and the amount installed throughout 2023. Both amount to 223,299 which accounts for 45% of total installations since 2009 when the upsurge in solar really began and installation numbers started to move the needle.
A Renewable Future
The significant increase in solar panel installations in recent years is largely down to the disruption caused by the cost of living crisis, as well as England’s continued desire to embrace eco-friendly practices. The decision to convert to a solar-powered home can be seen across the country, which Project Solar CEO, Simon Peat, says is “brilliant to see”. As climate concerns continue, Peat hopes this newfound data encourages more homeowners to consider converting to renewable energy sources.Interested in making the move to a more sustainable way of living?
