Project EV
OLEV Approved car charging station

What is Project EV?

A home electric vehicle (EV) charger puts convenience on your doorstep – literally. But did you know that installing a home EV charging station can have other benefits too?

One key benefit is that having  an EV charger actually adds value to your property, in much the same way as a driveway or garage does, but with the added benefit of it being enhanced with the technology of the future in a home car charging station.

This makes your house more attractive to buyers, and adds to the sale value of your house.

There are efficiency and cost benefits that come with having state of the art technology right outside your door (plus the ability to monitor everything via an app from the warmth of indoors), saving money as well as the environment.

EV charging and the National Grid

In an ideal world, both at-home EV chargers and public charging stations will be powered by renewable energy sources, such as solar power. This shift to renewable energy as the source for EV charging will see electric vehicles be all but emission-free, which is great news for the planet. In the meantime, while many homes still rely on the National Grid to provide enegy for their home,  EV owners can become more energy efficient by undertaking smart charging.

Why are electric cars better for the environment?

The UK government has announced its intention to become a net-zero emissions economy by 2050, and we all  have a  part to play to achieve this goal. They have also brought forward a ban on the sale of cars and vans powered entirely by petrol and diesel by five years, from 2035 to 2030 so the time to consider electric vehicles is now. While traditional cars guzzle petrol or diesel made from fossil fuels and emit vast amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere EV’s are battery-powered, so no harmful emissions are produced.

While electric vehicles are not emission-free, on average EV’s emit three times less carbon dioxide than petrol or diesel cars. This statistic takes into account the impact of driving, electricity generation used to power the EV and the manufacturing production.

What is smart charging?

Smart-charging is a step EV owners can take to  reduce their environmental impact, and reduce their energy bill if they rely on the National Grid for their energy needs. The concept of smart charging means EV owners can benefit from  lower charging  costs if they charge their electric car at times when the National Grid is in less demand. Smart charging comes into effect during the late evening and overnight when the demand on the grid  has reduced  and the electricity supplier has reduced its tariff.
